Inclusion & Educational Support
At our school, children and young people with different learning needs and socio-cultural backgrounds learn together. Everyone should be seen with his or her individual talents and be individually supported. In principle, support is provided regardless of whether the need is for assistance with learning and performance problems or the encouragement of special talents.
For Years 1 to 8, there are fixed times in the morning with the so-called “focus band” in the timetable, in which German as a second language (DaZ), but also German in general, mathematics, English and French are promoted in consultation with the subject teachers. Talented and interested students are offered courses in STEM, art and English. Pupils with partial performance problems (e.g. reading and spelling difficulties) or autism are provided with special education.
For primary school children, there are opportunities such as Sprachbad (Language Bath) and Nimm-ein-Buch/ Take-a-Book (NeB), while in Lower Secondary up to Year 8, learning times are built into the timetable where students can do their homework while still at school.
The school offers many experiential learning opportunities, develops basic skills for independent work and supports students with different learning needs.
These exclusive support and challenge programmes take place in small groups or even one-to-one. The wide range of extra-curricular activities and open learning approaches also play a key role in support. Teaching assistants also support differentiation within subject teaching in selected lessons. For the areas of early identification, prevention, diagnosis and inclusion, our team has been strengthened by a specialist in special education since 2018.
In our internal inclusion and support policy, we have applied current approaches to diversity and inclusion, support and differentiation to our school and have described and defined their processes in detail. Detailed support policies provide further guidance on how to support children with concentration and attention problems, reading and spelling difficulties or autism.
Irrespective of the severity of any impairment, we consider admissions on an individual basis and are proud to have found workable solutions for all applications to date.
In our various educational programmes, gifted and disabled students learn together, taking advantage of various differentiation options.
Since 2022, the creation of extended support plans for all students has been gradually expanded. In this way, we are creating transparent structural aids for our approach of optimal developmental support for each individual student!
